Web Development

This inner-city mixed-use building revolves around the idea of ‘web’ - a metaphor of the converging various programs found in the Hindley Street area.

The aluminium mesh wraps tightly around the structure providing a second skin. The resulting web-like aesthetic also offers practical advantages in shading and sustainable water use.

At night, the building emits web-like shadows onto surrounding structures as backing light utilizes the the mesh facade.

In view of the Adelaide College of the Arts to the south of the site, the mesh playfully sprawls the less public side of the structure, as a notion towards Adelaide's hidden artistic alleyways.

The mesh facade transforms into metal street furniture at ground level, inviting users to engage the structure.

The facade assists in the sustainable reuse of water as it guides rainwater down each level and through the filtered garden beds.
